Game Rants: Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
The SMT series has always been an interesting series to play, however one game in particular from the series has stood out to me so far. That game is SMT: Nocturne, probably one of the most interesting games I've played so far. I always say that what makes or breaks anything is the little details and Nocturne has so many little things in it that grab the mind and let you play around. However, you have to be willing to give it this game the thought it demands or else you won't notice the huge amount of work that was put into it.

Review: Mad Dog McCree (Nintendo 3DS)
Here's my review of Mad Dog McCree that was posted over at Diehard Gamefan. Please check it out. And as usual here's a small excert from it.
"There really isn’t much I can say about a game that is almost twenty years old and was ported to just about every major console at the time. Everything from the PC to the Sega CD to the 3DO had a copy of Mad Dog McCree, each with varying levels of quality. Needless to say, the concept of Mad Dog McCree was a novel idea back in the times when American companies thought full motion video games were the wave of the future. I never got on board along with the rest of the gaming world back in the early 1990’s, and soon game companies fell in line and dropped the idea. For those who read Alex Lucard’s review of the enjoyable Wii port, well you might want to turn away for this one."

GVN Review: Limbo
You are running through a forest, and not a soul to be seen around. It is eerily quiet; almost too quiet. Before you realize it, you come upon a gap. With a running start, you make a leap for the other side. The moment you leave the ground you realize you won’t make the distance, and begin hoping for a soft landing. Unfortunately, you land on a bed of wooden spikes, and die. Welcome to Limbo.

GVN Review: Diablo 3 (PC)
Diablo 2 would be released 4 years later in 2000 and from there would improve upon everything that was found in the original Diablo. Diablo 2 increased the cast of playable characters, added a robust skill tree system, thousands upon thousands of unique weapons, armor and items, and improved multiplayer. With the skill tree system, Diablo2 allowed for player to literally play however they wanted by created multiple builds for each of the characters. However the best part about Diablo 2 was the expanded lore and engrossing story. We learned more about the war between heaven and hell and it engrossed us.

GVN Review: Max Payne 3
Remedy had a hit on their hands when they created Max Payne back in 2001. They refined that experience with the sequel in 2003, which is still beloved by fans. When it was revealed that one of Rockstar’s internal studios would be developing Max Payne 3 instead of Remedy, fans had concerns whether it would still feel like a Max Payne game. Does Rockstar Games have what it takes to keep Max Payne alive, or are extra painkillers needed in the latest game?

GVN Review: Sonic 4 Episode 2
When Sonic 4 Episode 1 was released back in 2010, it aimed to bring Sega’s mascot back to his 2D roots that fans wished for. What fans got was a Sonic that that felt off; mostly the physics of Sonic himself was off. Combine that with levels that were moderately fun resulted in a game that was enjoyable, but did not quite capture the essence of what made a great Sonic game. With the development and release of Sonic 4 Episode 2, Sega and Dimps try to address the fans’ issues. Did they succeed, or does Sonic trip over his red sneakers?

GVN Review: Warhammer 40K Space Marine
Warhammer 40,000 holds its origins in a tabletop miniature game with a moderately deep fictional universe as its setting. Throughout the years, this universe has been captured by various video games. Yet, very few if any of them allowed players to directly be one of the super-human space marines. Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine is one of the first that let players be one of the famed Ultramarines in the Warhammer universe. Is being a space marine all that it is cracked up to be?

Review: Atelier Meruru (PS3)
http://diehardgamefan.com/2012/05/10/review-atelier-meruru-the-apprentice-of-arland-ps3/
"Atelier Meruru is a real difficult game for me to describe. On one hand you have an RPG where you, as Princess Meruru, are trying to expand her kingdom and prepare it for the merger with another kingdom. Then there’s the kingdom expansion that is reminiscent of a town growth simulator. On top of all of that, you have an alchemy system that the game completely revolves around. I’ve never really experienced a more robust system inside a role playing game before, and I was definitely interested in trying something new."
GVN Review: Max Payne 2 - The Fall of Max Payne
With the critical and commercial success of the original Max Payne, Remedy had some big shoes to fill. Everyone clamored for another game, and with how loved the original game was, expectations were set high. Two years later in 2003, Remedy obliged with the release of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Did Max Payne 2 live up to the expectations and hype established by its predecessor, or did it truly fall in slow motion?

GVN Review: Max Payne
When Max Payne was released in 2001, it was critically acclaimed for its gunplay and its unique story presentation. The gunplay was largely inspired by John Woo films, and it introduced some game play ideas that have largely influenced other shooters that have been created since. With the impending release of Max Payne 3 for the current generation of consoles and PC, we are here to see how the original game holds up a decade later. Does the gunplay of Max Payne still remain fun, or has time not been kind to this classic?

Review: Legend Of Grimrock - PC
http://diehardgamefan.com/2012/04/30/review-legend-of-grimrock-pc/
"I have always loved the sub-genre of dungeon crawler role playing games. The Eye of The Beholder series, Swords and Serpents, the Wizardry franchise, and Shinning: The Holy Ark are among my favorite games of the genre. Unfortunately after the mid 1990s, the genre faded to obscurity until a few years ago. Shortly after the release of the Nintendo DS the forgotten sub-genre was on the rise once more. We got games like Orcs And Elves, Etrian Odyssey, and a new entry in the Wizardry series for the PS3 to lead the charge in the genre’s resurrection. However, with all these consoles dungeon crawlers, pc gamers were all but forgotten about until the release of The Legend of Grimrock. The Legend of Grimrock is a promising attempt by the good people at Almost Human, to bring back the classic puzzle solving, treasure hunting, map drawing fun that we all had back in the good old days. Does Legend of Grimrock’s classic game design manage to hold up in this day and age or does it rely too much on its nostalgic appeal?"

GVN Review: Sonic CD
Back in the early 1990s, Sega released the Sega CD, a disc based add-on for the Genesis, in order to expand upon the system’s capabilities. Unfortunately due to a flood of FMV games that were released for it initially, the Sega CD was panned by many gamers at the time. As such, many missed out on one of the best gems for it: Sonic CD. In an effort to expand the hype for their upcoming Sonic 4 Episode 2, Sega has updated and re-released Sonic CD as a downloadable title for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Is the updated game up to snuff and enjoyable to play today, or does it fizzle into obscurity?

Diablo III Beta First Impressions
Well, the Diablo III Open Beta has arrived!!! Oh the long wait of "When is this thing actually going to be here so I can play" is partially over. Yes, partially. At the moment, I'm not sure which game took longer to come out with a part 3. Doom or Diablo? Hmmm... Anyways, I recently played the open beta of Diablo III. Does this game have all of the promise that we have all come to expect from the Blizzard powerhouse? Let's check it out!

GVN Review: Journey (PS3)
Journey, the latest game by thatgamecompany, is an odd game to describe let alone write about. Very much like their previous works Flow and Flower, Journey aims to provide a thought provoking experience more than push the player with technical challenges. It straddles that border between being a game and being art. Does Journey sit tight atop that border, or does it falter to one side?

Review: Avernum - Escape from the pit
http://diehardgamefan.com/2012/04/18/review-avernum-escape-from-the-pit-pc/
"Avernum: Escape from the pit is actually the second remake of Spiderweb’s first game, Exile: Escape From the Pit, from back in 1995. The first remake, released in 2000, was just simply called Avernum. The first remake completely overhauled the graphics, audio, and added more content. Exile and Avernum 2000 are point and click turn based role-playing games in the same vein as Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale. Now twelve years after the first remake, is there anything left to be added or improved upon in Avernum: Escape from the Pit?"

GVN's Review System
Most sites, while truely honest about their own reviews, tend to not have a score that equals what they were saying. A decent or average game is usually given a 5 or 50 but the majority of the readers take it as a negative review, so to compensate this the writers curve the score to where a decent or average game gets a 7 or 70.
Our letter grade system throws all the confusing out of the window. And we also include a small list postivies and negatives thrown in at the end to show what it was we felt strongest about in our play throughs. So please enjoy the new content we are throwing your way and stay tuned for more reviews on the way.

GVN Review: Ninja Gaiden 3
Ever since it’s revival in 2004 on the Xbox, Ninja Gaiden has grown in popularity among gamers as a genre defining action series. While the series is known for its great combat, it is also polarizing gamers with it’s higher than normal challenge and difficulty. Team Ninja has made a number of changes for their latest game Ninja Gaiden 3 in hopes of making it more accessible to gamers. Is this new change in direction successful, or does it do more harm than good?

PAX East: Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien
Ever play a rhythm-music game? How about a rhythm-music platformer? If you've ever played a Bit.Trip game, then you certainly have. Gaijin Games, creators of the Bit.Trip series, was on hand at PAX East this year with a playable build of Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien. Runner 2 is the sequel to the award winning Bit.Trip Runner. How does the sequel shape up so far to it's predecessor?

PAX East: Sonic 4 Episode 2
Anyone who has known me for awhile knows that I'm a huge fan of Sonic. His Genesis games were a huge part of my childhood. When Sonic 4 Episode 1 was released back in 2010, I was giddy as a schoolgirl waiting for Sonic's console return to 2D. When I finally played it, I found myself slightly let down. While it is an enjoyable game, it still had some flaws that kept it from being an instant classic in my heart. This past weekend, I got the chance to play a demo of Sonic 4 Episode 2 at Sega's PAX East booth. Does Episode 2 improve upon what the first episode started? If what I sampled is any indication, the answer is a resounding yes.
